**Volume 9: A Moment of Respite**
**07. Accepting Leona**

Cyclo first reported the incident with the Demon King to Deimos.

He explained that they had formed an alliance with the Demon King, though the details were yet to be decided.

He also reported that they would be taking in the Demon King's daughter, Leona.

"...You're already taking her in?" Deimos asked, bewildered, to which Cyclo could only nod weakly.

For now, as part of the request, they decided to start by arranging for Leona to learn the art of making sweets.

To think that the first task after establishing an alliance with the Demon King would be this. Both Cyclo and Deimos were filled with doubt, but they carried out their duties.

Consequently, Leona was employed as a server at a high-end café in Northforia, where she would work and learn to make sweets.

This café was famous for its high-quality tea sweets and was run by an elderly man with experience as a patissier in the capital.

Moreover, the owner had a personal connection with Deimos, allowing them to discuss certain behind-the-scenes matters.

As a result, it was decided that Leona would be described as the only daughter of a demon family who had defected from the empire for safety reasons and was now in Cyclo's care.

Her aspiration to become a pastry chef was shared honestly, without any deception.

"I see, I understand the situation," the café owner nodded.

"If it's a request from Deimos, then I shall take it on."

"Thank you very much."

With Leona's future settled, Cyclo bowed in gratitude to the owner, relieved that a decision had been made.

Thus, it was decided that Leona would work as a server at the café.

---

The rumor that Leona was a demon spread like wildfire.

Cyclo and his companions were initially worried about discrimination or persecution, so they made time to keep an eye on her.

However, their concern turned out to be unfounded.

The fact that Leona was a demon under the care of the hero Cyclo was widely known, and this had a positive effect on her acceptance.

Moreover, while demons are almost non-existent in the Heimburgh Kingdom, they are occasionally seen in the western city-states.

Therefore, it was not feasible, from an international political perspective, to persecute someone based solely on their race, even if they were from the enemy nation of the Rustgard Empire.

Hence, the Heimburgh Kingdom, while somewhat exclusive towards other races, did not actively discriminate against those with unique skills like heretics.

"Welcome! Have you decided on your order?"

Watching Leona work energetically from a distance, Cyclo exhaled a sigh of relief.

"Looks like everything is fine for now. In that case---"

Saying so, Cyclo took out a letter from his clock storage.

It was one of the letters documenting his exchanges with the Demon King, the most recent one containing a schedule for a meeting to discuss details in the near future.

"I'll have to inform Deimos-san about this."

With that, Cyclo left the café and headed towards Deimos's mansion.

---

"I see, understood. I'll keep that date open."

Cyclo showed Deimos the letter and finished his report.

"However... to think that the day would come when we negotiate directly with the Demon King."

"I wasn't expecting such a rapid development either."

Both of them let out a sigh, recalling the recent events of arranging work for Leona and keeping in touch with the Demon King through letters.

"--Oh? Another letter?"

Then, Cyclo noticed a black bird hovering outside the window with a letter in its beak.

Reacting to this, Deimos opened the window, and the bird flew in, dropping the letter into Cyclo's hand before flying away.

"The contents... Damn it, seriously...!"

The letter was a private message asking for more detailed information about Leona's current condition.

"Hahaha. Even the Demon King, when it comes to his daughter's well-being, is no different from any other father."

"Even so, sending this kind of request repeatedly is a bit much..."

Cyclo let out a sigh. He had been diligent in reporting Leona's condition to the Demon King, but it seemed not to be enough.

"Well, it's not a bad thing. The Demon King being a doting father is rather charming."

"Deimos-san... Are you just saying that because I'm the one who has to write the letters?"

"That's not the case at all."

Cyclo decided not to press Deimos for the truth in that moment.
